About the Society

The Legion of Vikings and Valkyries is an American lineage society that focuses on descent via a Gateway Ancestor from a Viking or Valkyrie who lived during that great period in world history.

There are presently 25 vikings and valkyries recognized by our Society, all of whom can be traced backwardly from most recognized Gateway Ancestors.

Prospective members must complete our lineage application (often a one-page short form, depending on whether membership has already been obtained in one or more qualifying royally focused societies). The application is a form-fill PDF designed for ease in completion. Documentary evidence and our Membership Fee will be required before your application can be approved.

A line of descent through an American Gateway ancestor is required. For your assistance, a Gateway Ancestor is an immigrant to America who has a proven line of descent from royalty. Thus, that ancestor is your Gateway to royalty; hence, the term. If an ancestor does not have an established royal descent, that ancestor is an Immigrant Ancestor. This distinction is made for clarity.

The Society offers Life Membership only to adults (18+ years), male or female. The Society meets biennially in Washington, DC, during the month of April. Members are notified by mail or e-mail.

Your Membership fee includes a Membership Certificate. Our Membership Certificate measures 8-1/2 x 11 inches and is printed on tan card stock to maximize its appearance.

Once membership has been established, our insignia are offered for purchase in two sizes (large and miniature), suspended from a ribbon.
